Lake Koman is the Drin river held back by a dam, a reservoir between steep forested mountains that has made the boat trips here famous. The day starts in front of the Rozafa hotel in Shkodër at 7:00 for the hour-and-three-quarter transfer to Koman, where the guide meets the group at the boat terminal by the tunnel. The boat leaves at 9:30 and reaches the Shala River, a tributary with no road in, by 10:45.
From then until 14:00 the time is yours: the river is shallow, turquoise and clear, with riverside guesthouses for lunch, kayaks, short hikes and a zipline. The boat returns to Koman by 15:15 and the minibus has the group back in Shkodër around 17:15. The transfers, the boat ticket and the guide are included; the Shala River part runs on its own, with the guide on hand.
